Royal Courts of Justice Trip

The Howard League for Penal Reform hosted a trip to the Royal Courts of Justice!

For the first time in Pro Bono history, we are running a Charity Venetian Masked Ball; working with ELSA Nottingham to raise money for the Bar Pro Bono Unit and Law Works.

The warmth collection was a brand new initiative this year in conjunction with the Student Union's Festive Fortnight to donate warm clothing to the Women's Centre in Nottingham.

For the first time in Pro Bono history we partnered with the Brazilian and Portuguese society for a Christmas Ice Skating Social with a donation from each ticket going to the Bar Pro Bono Unit and Law

We introduced a brand new initiative this year: our Pro Bono Society jumpers and t-shirts, trying to ensure all of our volunteers look the part when on volunteering trips on and off of campus.

Mentoring Scheme Launch

For the first time, the Pro Bono Society launched its own External Mentoring Scheme, pairing students with solicitors, barristers and those working within the legal sphere.

Meet the future trainees Panel

As in previous years, we ran a 'Meet the Future Trainees' Panel event. This year, however, we collaborated with the University of Nottingham Law Society and the University of Nottingham Commercial Awareness Society!

Frances Crook Talk

Frances Crook is the CEO of the Howard League of Penal Reform. For the past few years, she has been visiting us and giving an in depth talk about the current penal and justice system, as well as her ideas for reform.

For the first time, the society ran a separate social event for the Freshers and other years, to enable them to get to know people and feel more comfortable.

Safeguarding training

Before the closing of applications to take part in both OutLAW and Aspire, students had to attend a safeguarding session run by the University of Nottingham's Outreach Team.
